I made the decision to buy an iPad from Apple the first day that it came out (the same day that I bought an iPod Touch for by daughter and the same day WVU beat Kentucky to go to the final four).

Apple has reported to have sold over 2 million iPads already. I think the iPad is here to stay, it does a nice job consuming web content and easily sharing a screen in informal settings like your home.
I am working on creating a DIY stylus, in the hopes to do more drawing and illustrating. I am currently looking for conductive foam for the point of the device.
